Overview
Plunk is an open-source email platform (AGPL-3.0, over 5,000 GitHub stars) that covers three jobs: transactional email through an API or SMTP, campaign broadcasts to lists or segments, and workflow automations with triggers, delays and conditions. All events land in one contact record, so a receipt, a newsletter and an onboarding sequence share the same data.
The hosted service is EU-hosted and GDPR compliant. The free plan sends 1,000 emails a month with all features and Plunk branding in the footer. The paid plan has no base fee and charges $0.001 per email, removes branding and lets you set a monthly spend cap. Contacts are unlimited on both.
You can also self-host the full platform with Docker Compose and keep all data on your infrastructure. Inbound email, custom domains with automatic DKIM, SPF and DMARC setup, dynamic segments and analytics are included everywhere.
