Overview
TanStack Start is a full-stack framework from the team behind TanStack Query, Table and Router. It relies entirely on TanStack Router for routing, so you get typed routes, typed search params, nested layouts and route loaders, then adds full-document SSR, streaming, server routes and API routes, type-safe server functions (RPCs between client and server), middleware and request context.
Builds use Vite or Rsbuild. The hosting guide lists deployment targets for Cloudflare Workers, Netlify, Railway (the three official hosting partners), Vercel, Nitro, a Node.js server, Bun and Appwrite Sites. React Server Components are available as an experimental feature; the TanStack team itself wrote in July 2026 that it stopped using RSC on tanstack.com.
The docs describe Start as a release candidate: feature-complete with a stable API but not yet 1.0. It won Breakthrough of the Year at the 2026 Open Source Awards. TanStack.com is owned by TanStack LLC, which is bootstrapped and not venture-backed. If you do not need server features, the docs suggest TanStack Router alone for an SPA.
Pricing and plans
What it does
- Type-safe routing
- TanStack Router types params, search params and loader data end to end.
- Server functions
- Type-safe RPC calls from client to server without writing API endpoints.
- SSR and streaming
- Full-document server rendering with progressive streaming.
- Middleware and context
- Request and function middleware for auth, logging and data injection.
- Many hosting targets
- Guides for Cloudflare Workers, Netlify, Railway, Vercel, Nitro, Node, Bun and Appwrite Sites.
Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Full TypeScript inference for route params, search params and loader data.
- Pairs naturally with TanStack Query for client data caching.
- Not tied to one host; build with Vite or Rsbuild.
- Independent and bootstrapped, with no single hosting company setting its direction.
Limitations
- Still a release candidate per its own docs, not a 1.0 release.
- React Server Components are experimental only.
- Smaller ecosystem of examples and hosting integrations than Next.js.
- Cloudflare and Netlify setups currently require Vite and platform-specific plugins, per the hosting guide.
Who it suits
Good for
- TypeScript-heavy React apps
- Dashboards and SaaS apps with complex URL state
- Teams already using TanStack Router or Query
Look elsewhere if
- Teams that need a 1.0-stable framework with long-term support guarantees
- Content-first sites where Astro fits better

Questions
Is TanStack Start production ready?
Its docs call it a release candidate: feature-complete with a stable API, but not yet 1.0 and not guaranteed bug-free.
What is the difference between TanStack Router and TanStack Start?
Router is the type-safe client router; Start adds SSR, streaming, server functions, server routes and full-stack builds on top of it.
Where can I deploy TanStack Start?
Cloudflare Workers, Netlify, Railway, Vercel, Nitro, a Node.js or Bun server, and Appwrite Sites have documented setups.
