Overview

Analog is a full-stack meta-framework for Angular, created in 2022 and maintained in the open by a community led by Brandon Roberts. It builds Angular apps with Vite instead of the default Angular CLI builder and adds features Angular does not ship itself: file-based routing, server-side data fetching, integrated API and server routes, Markdown files as content routes, and hybrid SSR and SSG. Vitest and Storybook are supported, and it works with Angular CLI and Nx workspaces.

Deployment uses Nitro, the same server engine as Nuxt. The default preset produces a ready-to-run Node server (node dist/analog/server/index.mjs listening on port 3000), and you switch targets with the BUILD_PRESET environment variable or the nitro option in vite.config.ts. Deploying under a URL prefix takes several configuration steps described in the docs.

Because Analog tracks Angular closely, expect to update it alongside Angular majors. It is a smaller project than Angular itself, so check that the Angular version you need is supported before upgrading.

§3

What it does

File-based routing
Pages come from the file system, like Next.js or Nuxt.
API routes
Server endpoints live beside the Angular app.
Content routes
Markdown files become pages, suited to blogs and docs.
Hybrid SSR/SSG
Prerender some routes and server-render others.
Nitro deployment presets
Node server by default; other presets via BUILD_PRESET.
§4

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Brings meta-framework conventions to Angular without leaving Angular components.
  • Vite-based builds with Vitest and Storybook support.
  • Nitro presets reuse a deployment layer proven in the Nuxt ecosystem.

Limitations

  • Community-maintained with a small core team, so pace depends on a few maintainers and sponsors.
  • Must keep in step with Angular's release schedule; check compatibility before Angular upgrades.
  • Deploying under a URL prefix needs several manual configuration steps, per the docs.
§5

Who it suits

Good for

  • Angular developers building content sites or blogs
  • Angular apps that want file routing and API routes in one project

Look elsewhere if

  • Enterprises that need vendor-backed support contracts
  • Teams not already using Angular
