Overview
PrimeVue offers 80+ Vue components: data tables, tree tables, charts, overlays, menus and inputs, with styled themes built on design tokens, an unstyled mode, and Tailwind integration. It has long been one of the most complete Vue libraries alongside Vuetify.
PrimeVue 5 is the first release under the PrimeUI umbrella. Its migration guide says there are no breaking changes to public component APIs, adds new components (CommandMenu, Compare, Gallery, InputTags, InputPassword, InputColor, Sidebar, ScrollArea), moves the base font size assumption from 14px to 16px with compat presets, and deprecates older components such as MultiSelect, Galleria, Chart and Editor for removal in v6. Chart and Editor are to be replaced by paid PrimeUI PRO components.
Licensing is the key decision. From v5, PrimeVue is distributed as compiled packages under the PrimeUI licence and is no longer open source. The free Community licence covers individuals and small organisations below all eligibility limits (fewer than 5 developers, fewer than 10 employees, under $1M revenue, under $3M outside funding, and not public-sector or educational). Others need PrimeUI Commercial at $599 per developer through 2026 and $799 from 2027.
