Overview

Ant Design is a design language and the React library that implements it, antd. It targets enterprise-class web applications and ships a wide set of components, including complex ones like Table, Tree, Transfer, Cascader, Upload and Form with validation. Components are written in TypeScript, support server-side rendering and Electron, and include internationalization for dozens of languages.

Version 6.0 was released on 22 November 2025. The team described it as a smooth upgrade from v5 without a compatibility package: the focus was React 19 compatibility, better semantic structure and CSS variable support. v6 requires React 18 or newer and drops IE. The v5 branch moved to a one-year maintenance period with only serious bug fixes.

The release schedule is published: weekly patch releases and monthly minor releases, and the changelog shows 6.6.2 on 28 August 2026. Recent docs add AI-oriented resources such as an MCP server, CLI and llms.txt. The ecosystem includes Ant Design Pro scaffolding, Pro Components, Ant Design Charts, Ant Design Mobile and Ant Design X for AI chat interfaces.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Very broad component coverage for admin apps
  • Regular, documented release cadence
  • Smooth v5 to v6 upgrade path
  • Large user base and ecosystem

Limitations

  • React only; v6 dropped React 16 and 17
  • Distinctive enterprise look that takes theming work to change
  • Large library; tree shaking helps but complex components are heavy
  • v5 receives only serious bug fixes for one year after v6
§5

Who it suits

Good for

  • Admin panels and back-office tools
  • Data-entry heavy enterprise apps
  • Teams wanting many complex components from one library

Look elsewhere if

  • Marketing sites and highly custom brand designs
  • Tailwind-first projects
