Overview
Mailtrap is best known for its Email Sandbox, a fake inbox that catches test emails from staging environments. Its Email API/SMTP product sends real transactional and bulk mail through an API, SDKs or SMTP relay, with a separate bulk stream so newsletters do not share a pipe with password resets. Inbound addresses with webhooks are available on all plans.
The free plan sends 4,000 emails a month but only 150 a day. Basic plans are low-cost for their volume: $15 for 10,000, $20 for 50,000 and $30 for 100,000 emails, with 3 users, 5 domains and 5 days of logs, but no dedicated IP and no click tracking. Business starts at $85 for 100,000 emails and adds a dedicated IP with automatic warm-up, reputation monitoring, SSO, sub-accounts, 100 users and 24/7 chat support.
Mailtrap lists SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR compliance. Note that the monthly quota counts both sent and received emails.
