§1

Overview

Tigris is an object storage service built for global access. Instead of choosing a bucket region, you use one endpoint and Tigris distributes data across regions automatically, caching and serving it close to where it is read. It supports over 90% of the S3 API, so standard AWS SDKs and the aws CLI work by changing the endpoint.

Pricing mirrors S3's structure but without the bandwidth line: Standard storage is $0.02 per GB-month, Class A requests (writes, lists) $0.005 per 1,000 and Class B (reads) $0.0005 per 1,000. There is no charge for egress to the internet or for data moving between Tigris regions, and prices are the same in every geography. Infrequent Access and two Archive tiers lower storage costs for cold data, with minimum retention periods.

The free tier covers 5 GB of Standard storage and 10,000 write and 100,000 read requests a month, enough for a small app's uploads. Tigris markets itself for AI datasets and model checkpoints that must reach GPUs in different clouds without transfer fees, and for static assets and user uploads served from the nearest region.

It is a younger company than the other egress-free providers, so check its status history and feature list against your needs, particularly around the remaining S3 API gaps.

Plan Price What you get
Free $0 5 GB Standard storage, 10,000 Class A and 100,000 Class B requests per month
Standard $0.02/GB-month Class A $0.005 per 1,000, Class B $0.0005 per 1,000, no retrieval fee
Infrequent Access $0.01/GB-month $0.01/GB retrieval, 30-day minimum
Archive $0.004/GB-month Restore required before reading, 90-day minimum
Archive Instant Retrieval $0.004/GB-month $0.03/GB retrieval, 90-day minimum
Enterprise Custom Custom pricing and contract for large workloads

Prices are the same in every geography. Object notifications cost $0.01 per 1,000 events. DELETE requests and many error responses (4xx, 5xx, 304) are free. Storage is measured in binary GB averaged over the month. Tigris asks customers with 'extraordinary' bandwidth needs to contact it, and offers to discuss refunds for attack traffic. Whether a card is needed for the free tier, and which regions are in the EU, were not stated on the pages read (the pricing page mentions EUR multi-region buckets). No compliance certifications were listed on the pages read.

§3

What it does

Single global endpoint
Data is distributed across regions automatically; reads are served from the closest region.
Zero egress
No charge for internet egress, regional or region-to-region transfer.
Storage tiers
Standard, Infrequent Access, Archive and Archive Instant Retrieval classes with lifecycle transitions.
Object notifications
Webhooks for object changes, billed at $0.01 per 1,000 events.
Migration tooling
Documented migration from S3, GCS and R2, with an S3-compatible API for existing code.
MCP server
A hosted MCP server lets AI coding tools manage buckets and objects.
§4

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • No egress or inter-region transfer fees
  • One global endpoint instead of per-region buckets
  • Same price in every geography
  • Free tier for small projects
  • No charge for unauthorized or failed requests

Limitations

  • Supports over 90% of the S3 API, not all of it
  • Read requests are billed ($0.0005 per 1,000), unlike flat-rate providers
  • Infrequent Access and Archive tiers have 30 and 90-day minimum retention charges
  • Very high bandwidth users are asked to contact Tigris about their requirements
§5

Who it suits

Good for

  • Apps with users in several continents
  • AI training data and checkpoints shared across GPU clouds
  • Teams leaving S3 to cut egress costs

Look elsewhere if

  • Data that must stay in one named region under strict residency rules
  • Apps relying on rarely used S3 API features
