Overview
Supabase is a backend platform built around a dedicated Postgres database per project. On top of the database it adds authentication with 20+ social providers, S3-compatible file storage with a CDN, TypeScript edge functions on Deno, realtime change feeds over WebSockets and pgvector for embeddings. REST and GraphQL APIs are generated from your schema, and access is controlled with Postgres row-level security.
The free plan allows two active projects with a 500 MB database and 50,000 monthly active auth users, which covers many side projects. Free projects pause after a week with no activity and get no automatic backups, so it is not meant for production.
Paid billing has two layers. The Pro plan is $25 a month per organization and raises quotas (8 GB disk, 250 GB egress, 100,000 MAU, daily backups kept 7 days). Each project also runs on its own compute instance billed by the hour; a $10 monthly credit covers one Micro instance, and every additional project or larger instance is extra. Team at $599 a month adds SOC 2 and ISO 27001 reports, dashboard SSO and longer backup and log retention.
Because the stack is open source and the database is ordinary Postgres, you can self-host or move your data out with standard tools. Database branching, point-in-time recovery and log drains are metered add-ons rather than plan features.

- Email, magic link, phone OTP, 20+ social providers, anonymous sign-ins and SAML SSO, with authorization through row-level security.
- Auto-generated APIs
- REST via PostgREST and GraphQL via pg_graphql are generated from the schema without code generation.
- Storage
- S3-compatible object storage with CDN delivery and image transformations; uploads up to 50 MB on Free and 500 GB on paid plans.
- Edge Functions
- TypeScript functions on Deno with npm compatibility; 500,000 invocations free, 2 million on Pro then $2 per million.
- Realtime
- Database change listeners, presence and broadcast over WebSockets; 200 concurrent connections free, 500 on Pro.
- Branching
- Preview database branches per git branch, billed at $0.01344 per branch per hour on paid plans.
