Overview
Tiger Cloud is the hosted platform of Tiger Data, the company that was called Timescale until June 2025. It runs standard PostgreSQL with the TimescaleDB extension, which adds automatic time-based partitioning (hypertables), a hybrid row-columnar storage engine with compression, continuous aggregates and more than 200 time-series SQL functions. Older data can be moved to a low-cost tier on object storage while staying queryable.
There is no fixed instance price list on the public page. You pick compute per service and pay by the hour; storage is billed on what you actually use, so you do not pre-provision disk. The Performance plan starts at $30/mo and caps services at 8 CPU and 16 TB; Scale starts at $36/mo and adds read replicas, multi-node HA, tiered storage, private endpoints and 14 days of point-in-time recovery. Enterprise adds SSO, HIPAA and 24x7 support.
A Free Plan, still labelled beta in the docs, gives two small shared-compute services of 750 MB each in us-east-1 only. It is meant for prototypes, not production: there is no pooler, no HA and no compute resizing. Before paying, note that compute rates differ by region and HA replicas double the compute bill.

Free Plan (beta): up to 2 services per account on shared compute, 750 MB storage each (read-only when full), 24-hour PITR forks, no connection pooler or HA, us-east-1 only.
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 2 services, shared compute, 750 MB storage each, us-east-1, beta |
| Performance | From $30/mo | 4 services, up to 8 CPU / 32 GB RAM and 16 TB per service, PITR 3 days, 1 VPC |
| Scale | From $36/mo | Unlimited services, up to 32 CPU / 128 GB, 64 TB, read replicas, tiered storage, PITR 14 days, SOC 2 report |
| Enterprise | Custom | Up to 64 CPU / 256 GB, SAML SSO, HIPAA, cross-region backups, 24x7 support |
What it does
- Hypertables
- Automatic time- and key-based partitioning of large tables, with continuous aggregates for pre-computed rollups.
- Columnar compression
- Row storage for recent writes and compressed columnar storage for analytics; the vendor cites up to 98% compression.
- Tiered storage
- On the Scale plan, colder data moves to object storage and stays queryable; tiered data is shared by replicas at no extra cost.
- Database forks
- Fork a service, including to an earlier point in time, to test schema changes or recover data.
- Vector and hybrid search
- pgvector and pgvectorscale plus BM25 keyword search for retrieval workloads.
- Two clouds
- Services run on AWS (13 regions) or Azure (4 regions), with cross-region backups on Enterprise.
Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Time-series and analytics features built into ordinary PostgreSQL, so existing SQL tools and ORMs work
- Storage billed on actual use with no charge for backups, ingest or egress
- EU regions in Frankfurt, Zurich, Ireland, London and Azure Amsterdam/Frankfurt
- Permanent free services for prototypes without a credit card
- The TimescaleDB extension can be self-hosted if you leave the cloud
Limitations
- Free Plan services are limited to 750 MB, shared compute and us-east-1, and are still in beta
- Public pricing gives only starting prices; exact hourly rates depend on region and are shown in the console
- Performance plan allows 4 services and 3 days of point-in-time recovery
- Connection pooling, HA replicas and tiered storage are paid add-ons or higher-plan features
- SAML SSO and HIPAA require the custom-priced Enterprise plan
Who it suits
Good for
- IoT, metrics and event data stored in PostgreSQL
- Real-time analytics dashboards over large tables
- Teams already using TimescaleDB who want it managed
- AI apps that need vector search next to relational data
Look elsewhere if
- Small general web apps that need scale-to-zero billing
- Workloads needing a region outside AWS and Azure

Questions
Is Tiger Cloud the same as Timescale Cloud?
Yes. Timescale renamed itself Tiger Data in June 2025 and its cloud product is now called Tiger Cloud; the open-source extension is still TimescaleDB.
Does Tiger Cloud have a free tier?
Yes, a beta Free Plan gives up to two services with shared compute and 750 MB each in us-east-1, with no credit card. There is also a 30-day trial with $1,000 credit.
How much does Tiger Cloud cost?
The Performance plan starts at $30/mo and Scale at $36/mo, billed hourly for compute and by use for storage. Enterprise is custom priced.
Can I keep Tiger Cloud data in the EU?
Yes. AWS regions include Frankfurt, Zurich, Ireland and London, and Azure regions include Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
Is Tiger Cloud serverless?
No. You choose compute per service and pay for it hourly while it runs; only storage scales automatically with your data.
