Overview
Hetzner, the German hosting company, runs S3-compatible Object Storage on Ceph clusters in Falkenstein, Nuremberg and Helsinki. You pay one base price per account, billed hourly and capped monthly, and that base includes 1 TB of storage (up to 744 TB-hours in a 31-day month) and roughly 1 TB of outgoing traffic. Anything above is charged per TB, with egress at €1.00 per TB.
API requests (PUT, GET, DELETE and so on), ingress and internal traffic in Hetzner's eu-central network zone are free, so the bill depends only on storage and egress. After the 1 April 2026 increase the base is €6.49 a month excluding VAT; it applies whenever at least one bucket exists.
The service is deliberately simple. Hetzner's docs describe it as mainly for write-once, read-many use such as backups and public file sharing, and list firm limits: 750 requests per second per bucket and per source IP, 10 Gbit/s per bucket, 100 TB and 50 million objects per bucket, and 100 buckets per account. Only basic tasks are available in the console; everything else is done through the S3 API or tools.
For European teams already on Hetzner Cloud, it is a cheap, GDPR-friendly place for backups, media and static files. It is not designed for high-request workloads or users far from Europe.
