Overview
Redis Cloud is the managed Redis offered by Redis Inc., the company behind Redis. It runs Redis 8, which adds JSON, vector sets, time series and the Redis Query Engine for full-text, geospatial, vector and hybrid search. Databases run on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure, or on your own cloud through BYOC.
The free plan is a single 30 MB database with a 100 ops/sec cap, enough for learning and prototypes. Essentials plans are shared deployments sized by memory, from $5 a month for the smallest, with daily and instant backups, high availability, SAML SSO, encryption at rest and up to 99.99% uptime. Redis Flex on Essentials stores part of the data on SSD to reach 100 GB at lower cost.
Pro moves to dedicated clusters with unlimited memory, multiple databases, Active-Active replication across regions, private connectivity and up to 99.999% uptime. It is billed hourly from $0.014 an hour with a $200 monthly minimum; the first $200 is free.
Essentials plans enforce monthly bandwidth and ops/sec limits per size, so check the throughput caps rather than just memory when sizing a cache for real traffic.

What it does
- Redis 8
- Current Redis with JSON, vector sets and 480+ commands; Redis says it is the only managed Redis 8 on AWS and Google Cloud.
- Query Engine
- Full-text, geospatial, vector and hybrid search directly on Redis data.
- Redis Flex
- Keeps part of the dataset on SSD to hold up to 100 GB on Essentials and terabytes on Pro at lower cost than RAM only.
- Active-Active
- Multi-region replication with local read and write latency on Pro, backing the 99.999% uptime tier.
- Backups and persistence
- Daily and instant backups and data persistence on paid Essentials and Pro plans.
- Security
- SAML SSO, RBAC, encryption in transit and at rest on Essentials; VPC peering and PrivateLink on Pro.
Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Full Redis 8 feature set from the company that builds Redis
- Paid entry at $5/mo with backups and SSO
- Runs on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure
- Active-Active multi-region with a 99.999% uptime tier on Pro
- States SOC 2, PCI, HIPAA and GDPR support
Limitations
- Free plan is only 30 MB with 100 ops/sec
- Essentials plans cap bandwidth and throughput per size
- Pro has a $200 monthly minimum
- No per-request billing or scale to zero
- Essentials region choice is narrower than Pro's
Who it suits
Good for
- Production caching and session stores that need backups and HA
- Apps using Redis search, JSON or vector features
- Enterprises needing multi-region Active-Active Redis
Look elsewhere if
- Serverless or edge apps with spiky, low average traffic, where per-request pricing is cheaper
- Hobby projects needing more than 30 MB for free

Questions
Is Redis Cloud free?
Yes, one 30 MB database is free forever with a 100 ops/sec limit and community support.
How much does Redis Cloud cost?
Essentials starts at $0.007 an hour, about $5 a month, and scales with memory size. Pro starts at $0.014 an hour with a $200 monthly minimum.
What is the difference between Redis Cloud Essentials and Pro?
Essentials is a shared deployment with one database and size-based limits; Pro is a dedicated cluster with multiple databases, Active-Active replication and private networking.
