Overview

Sentry is the default error tracker for many teams: add an SDK, and uncaught exceptions arrive grouped into issues with stack traces, breadcrumbs, the release and the suspect commit. Tracing, session replay, logs, application metrics, profiling, cron monitors and uptime monitors are linked to the same trace, so an error can be followed back to the slow request or the user session that caused it.

The free Developer plan is for one person, with 5,000 errors and 5 million spans a month. Team adds unlimited users, integrations such as GitHub, Slack and Jira, and a 50,000-error base quota; Business adds SAML/SCIM, unlimited dashboards, finer quota controls and longer retention.

Billing is by volume per data category. You can reserve volume in advance at a discount or set a pay-as-you-go budget; once both are used up, new events are dropped for the rest of the month. Set rate limits and sampling in the SDKs before a noisy release burns the quota.

Sentry can also be self-hosted with Docker Compose, which removes the volume bill but needs a sizeable server and upkeep.

Profiling is PAYG only and the Seer AI agent is $40 per active contributor a month. New accounts get a 14-day trial. Data beyond quota and budget is dropped.

Strengths

  • Events beyond the reserved volume and PAYG budget are dropped for the rest of the billing month.
