Monitoring, uptime and error tracking
Sentry vs BugSnag
Sentry links errors, traces, replays and logs on one trace, with a free one-user plan and a self-hosted edition; BugSnag focuses on mobile crash reporting and per-release stability scores.
The short answer
Both capture errors from most platforms and both have a free one-user plan. Sentry’s gives 5,000 errors and 5M spans a month with a 30-day lookback; BugSnag’s gives 7,500 events and 1M spans with 7-day retention.
Sentry Team lists $26 a month on annual billing with unlimited users and 50,000 errors, and Business $80 with SAML and SCIM. BugSnag’s own page did not show prices; third-party listings put Select from about $20 and Preferred from about $33 a month on annual billing, with SAML SSO on Preferred. Overages differ: Sentry drops new events once reserved volume and the pay-as-you-go budget are used, while BugSnag can upgrade your plan automatically after repeated overages of its daily quota.
Sentry’s strength is context: errors, tracing, session replay, logs and cron and uptime monitors share one trace, and a self-hosted edition runs with Docker Compose. BugSnag’s is mobile: crashes, ANRs and minidumps, errors ranked by user impact, and on-premises deployment on Enterprise for PCI and PHI compliance.
